What: occupation
Occupier: Greece

The Dodecanese Islands of the Aegean Sea were under Italian control before World War II. After the war they were a British military protectorate until unification with Greece in 1947. During that year, the Dodecanese used stamps of Greece overprinted "S.D.D.", for "Stratiotiki Dioikisis Dodecanissou" or "Dodecanese Military Occupation", switching to regular Greek issues at the end of the year.
